Would you like to receive a POSTCARD from a Hatter somewhere in Australia? This is a great option for those who don’t want to write a full letter to a penpal (like in our penpal exchange), but would like to send and receive postcards with Hatters for fun.
Signups now closed for the October-November POSTCARD exchange!
For more information, click on the sections below:
Key Information:
- To sign up you must fill out the google form linked above to register your details so they can be passed on – we will not accept registrations any other way.
- You may sign up for either 1 singular POSTCARD swap, or up to 5 swaps
- You will be given the name and mailing address for a Hatter/s from anywhere in Australia and a random Hatter/s will be given yours.
- Unlike the Letter Exchange, you will not necessarily receive a postcard from the Hatter/s you send them to. It is random.
- This will be a once-only swap! We will run the swap again in future and you can sign up again for a new swap. Keep an eye on the newsletter for info.
- Postcards must be mailed to your swap partner via “snail mail” at your own expense.
- POSTCARD ONLY – nothing else. Don’t put it in an envelope, just post the postcard as they are intended to be sent.
- No glitter! And no loose decorations that can fall off and be annoying to the postal system. I know we like to sparkle, but we don’t want to glitterbomb other people’s mail!
- It is recommended not to use a postcard picturing something from your state if you are sending one to someone in the same state as you – as that’s no fun! So a more local themed one might be nice, or you could use any other type of postcard – You could even make a postcard yourself! Or you could buy a postcard from our Aussie Hatting Affiliate store HatterBling – Find the Hatter Postcards here.
Need ideas to write about?
If you are stuck thinking of what you could write about, here’s some suggestions:
- Tell your penpal about yourself:
- Where you live
- What things you do in your life, do you work?
- Hobbies and Interests
- Tell them about your Hatting:
- What your chapter is like
- What sorts of activities you do
- What fun things your chapter has done in the past
- Plans to attend conventions or large gatherings in the future
- Write a poem

Further Terms & Conditions
- POSTCARDS only – Not in an envelope, just posted the proper postcard way. Please ensure your handwriting is legible for your penpal to read!
- No glitter!
- For those without internet access – Queens/Carers may sign up chapter members (with their permission!) who cannot fill out the forms themselves, but in doing so the Queen/Carer is responsible for ensuring that the member follows the rules.
- Collection of Personal Information – By signing up to the postcard swap and filling out the google form, you consent to your details being stored in the system and given out to your randomly assigned swapper/s so that you can participate in this postcard swap.
- Privacy – By signing up to this postcard swap you agree that you will use the contact details you are given ONLY for the purpose of sending them a postcard as part of this swap, and will not use the details for any other purpose.
- Cancelling your Postcard Swap – If you need to cancel the swap, you must email aussiehatting@gmail.com as soon as possible, your swap partner/s will be notified and your information will be removed from the database – this is so that your poor recipient isn’t left postcardless, and so that the organiser knows you’re not sending yours. (but be aware that any Hatter who already has your information will continue to have it).
- Abandoned Postcards – Hatters who have had failed to send their postcard/s may be prohibited from participating in further exchanges – this is to ensure that no Hatter is left forlornly waiting by the mailbox for their mail that never arrives – this is supposed to be a positive experience for all!
- For extra privacy – Chapter Queens may choose to act as the postal point for members of their chapter, whereby members can all give the same address (recommended to be a PO box/Parcel Locker) when they sign up, and the Queen collects the postcards and distributes them to her members. Chapters doing this are responsible for ensuring that the postcards are distributed to members in a timely fashion.
- Liability – The organiser (Queen Amaranthine/Obsi – webmistress of this website) will take care to keep each Hatter’s contact information private as much as possible, but is not responsible for the content of the exchanged postcards, the cost of buying and posting them, or any incidents/harm that may come from people participating in this exchange. By the nature of administering a postcard swap, your name and address details must be collected (via google form) stored (in a private google spreadsheet) and shared to another person/s to facilitate a postcard swap.
